The Volkswagen T25 / T3 Westfalia Club Joker with Grey Furniture / Dark Grey Edging and Grey / Red Upholstery Model History

In July 1986 the new updated Volkswagen Westfalia Club Joker camper was introduced. Whilst maintaining a similar layout to the previous version of the Club Joker the furniture was now in a more modern light grey with dark grey edge trim. The upholstery was in matching grey materials. Engine specifications and external colour options changed as well.

The VW Westfalia Club Joker was available initially in 1986/87 in 4 colours.

H3H3 Marsala Red (LH3D) (Marsalarot) (with red roof)

W4W4 Titian Red Metallic (LE3T) (Tizianrot metallic) at extra cost 1633.62 DM (with red roof)

X2X2 Dove Grey Metallic (LH5U) (Taubengrau Metallic) at extra cost 1633.62 DM (with Steel (Stahl) blue roof)

In June 1988 Volkswagen introduced 6 more colour options in addition to the options above:

In 1988 a new colour was introduced Bordeaux Red Pearl Metallic (Burgundy) (LC3Y) Bordeauxrot Perleffekt

3) Volkswagen Westfalia Club Joker Furniture Specification

The 1987 model year T25 / T3 Volkswagen Westfalia Club Joker Camper was available in two different interior layouts known as Club Joker 1 (Pop top) and Club Joker 3 (High top).

VW Westfalia Club Joker 1 Pop Top

The VW Westfalia Club Joker 1 Pop Top layout consisted of:

1) Combination cupboard 87 cm wide x 45 cm deep on the left behind the drivers seat with sink, two flame cooker with splash plate. The splash plate folds down and can be used to drain dishes after washing. Also the unit has a cutlery draw, a large cupboard for tableware and the fridge.

2) Cupboard unit with integrated freshwater tank.

3) Wardrobe and storage unit over the engine bay.

4) Roof locker below roof bed.

5) Cushion 120 cm wide over the engine bay.

6) 3/4 width rock n roll bed for 2 persons (bed is 188 cm x 120 cm when folded out) with bedding storage area under seat.

7) Rear table on swinging arm (80 cm x 40 cm) with light grey surface finish and dark grey edging trim.

8) Optional (at additional cost) front table on swinging arm (60 cm x 40 cm) with light grey surface finish and dark grey edging trim.

4) Westfalia Club Joker Upholstery Specification

The 1987 model year Volkswagen Westfalia Club Joker had light grey furniture and the upholstery was grey with red / black stripes.

This material is prone to wear especially on the front seats so check carefully if looking to buy this model of Club Joker.

Curtain material was grey with a black and red striped pattern.

5) Volkswagen Westfalia Club Joker Roof Specification

VW Westfalia Club Joker 1 Pop Top Roof Version:

Luggage rack over the drivers cab.

Inner lining of roof was a soft flock material.

Canvas had a large opening aperture at the front with a zippable mosquito net.

The roof canvas on pop tops was light grey.

Fibreglass roof had an opening plastic window (29 cm x 39 cm) with mosquito net and black out curtain.

Two fresh air vents.

Double bed in poptop roof 185 cm x 122 cm.

The double bed cushion in roof on pop tops was a light grey material.

VW Westfalia Club Joker 3 High top Roof Version:

with large plastic double glazed panorama window at the front.

Insulated with 25 mm insulation.

Two 40 cm x 40 cm  lifting air vents with mosquito nets.

Two x 12 volt lights inside roof.

Storage cupboard above drivers cabin.

Double bed in hightop roof 194 cm x 116 cm.

The double bed cushion in roof on high tops was a light grey material.

6)Volkswagen Westfalia Club Joker Flooring and Carpet Specification

The rear floor was a hard wearing grey lino type material and this was covered by a removable square grey carpet with a non slip rubber backing.

The front carpet in the cab was grey.

7) Volkswagen Westfalia Club Joker Door Trim Specification

Door trims and interior panels were grey vinyl with a storage pocket on drivers side.

8) Volkswagen Westfalia Club Joker Standard Model Specification

Insulation

Insulated on all inner bodywork in the living area with 25 mm thick mineral fibre plates. Floor area has a plywood sheet with PVC covering. Over the engine bay there is an insulating noise absorbing mat. The side walls and roof panels (only in Club Joker 3 Hightop) are made from lined wood panels.

Windows and Curtains

Five tinted and double glazed windows in rear living area. The window above the cooker opens.

Curtains all round. The curtain for the front windscreen was clipped on when required.

Electrical

220 Volt external hook up with internal outlet socket and safety trip cut out and 220 volt adaptor cable.

63 Ah Leisure battery with split charge relay and automatic battery volt charger.

Three transistor lights 12 volts (additionally there were two reading lights in roof bed on Club Joker 3 hightop models).

Freshwater and Wastewater

55 Litre freshwater tank with electric pump and lockable cap.

20 Litre waste water tank under the vehicle.

Gas Equipment

External underbody 8kg LPG tank with Eis-ex (gas preheater for extreme cold temperature use) and 3 tap control.

Kitchen

Combination cupboard 87 cm wide x 45 cm deep on the left behind the drivers seat with sink, two flame cooker with splash plate. The splash plate folds down and can be used to drain dishes after washing. Also the unit has a cutlery draw, a large cupboard for tableware and the fridge.

Storage rail above kitchen.

Diode control display system on the kitchen unit showing fresh water tank level, leisure battery charge level, indicator when fridge is running on gas and Eis-ex switch and LED indicator to show when Eis-ex is switched on (LPG preheater for use in extreme cold conditions).

Fridge

42 litre fridge working from 12v, 220v and gas.

Living Area

All furniture is five sheet laminated and 15 mm thick plywood with a light grey PVC coating and dark grey PVC edging. The upholstery with red / black stripes on a grey base material.

Rock N Roll Seat Bed for 2 people in the rear with upholstered cushion over the engine bay.

Roof locker cupboard above rear seat with shelf accessible from rear tailgate area.

Wardrobe and small cupboard rear left over the engine bay.

Storage unit along the side with 3 stowage areas.

Rotating table (80 cm x 40 cm) on metal arm for rear living area.

Sleeping Area

Double bed when rock n roll bed folded down including cushion over engine bay (188 cm x 120 cm).

Heating

Thermostatically controlled Eberpacher night heater using either diesel or petrol depending on engine specified.

Eberspacher heater timer control with digital display. (Not standard on the Joker).

Logos

Club Joker logos and stripes on the outside of the vehicle.

Additional Model Equipment

Holders for two headrests on rear seat.

Seat belts for two people on rear seat.

Swivelling driver and passenger seats.

Isringhauer (ISRI) highback comfort seats with adjustable armrests and cloth storage pockets at rear in Club Joker upholstery. (Joker came with captain seats but not these special ones. Westfalia comfort seats could be ordered at additional cost for  the Joker)

Rubber backed Velour carpet for the rear of the bus. (not standard on Joker).

Four silver wheel trims.

Four cupholders (two front, two rear).

Front spoiler (not standard on Joker).

Front and rear bumpers with profile strip (Not standard on Joker).

Speedometer with resettable mileage trip, rev counter and digital clock.

Opening quarter light windows for driver and passenger (Not standard on Joker).

Front windscreen in laminated safety glass.

Halogen headlights.

Dual circuit and handbrake warning light.

Lockable glove box lid.

Carpet inside covering front wheel arches.

Child lock on sliding door.

Intermittent windscreen wipers.

Club Joker had square headlight grill with double headlights. (Joker had round single headlights as standard).

Passenger sun visor equipped with make up mirror with light (not standard on Joker).

90 amp alternator (only with petrol engine).

12 Volt accessory socket in dashboard.

Dashboard and steering wheel in black. Cab area door trim in grey.

5 1/2 J x 14 Wheels. Steel belt tyres 185 R 14 C.

For both Club Joker 1 and  Club Joker 3 it was possible to get a removable two seat middle bank unit that sat behind the driver and passenger seats and in front of the rear seat and fastened to rails in the floor. This unit was in grey upholstery material to match the interior of the bus. Order Number 216 016 270 002. Cost 1267.58 DM (Only in conjunction with two runners mentioned above)
