Volkswagen Westfalia T25 / T3 California Model History The Westfalia California was introduced in late 1988 and the Westfalia Atlantic a few months later in mid 1989. As the names might suggest the California was aimed at people using the bus in summer as in standard form it came fitted with single glazing and without an Eberspacher night heater. The Atlantic was aimed more at people who intended to use the bus all year round or in winter conditions as it came in standard form with double glazing and an Eberspacher night heater. 3) Volkswagen Westfalia California Furniture Specification The new 1989 T25 / T3 Volkswagen Westfalia California Camper was available in two different configurations known as pop top and high top. VW Westfalia California Pop Top
The Westfalia California Pop Top layout consisted of: 1) Kitchen Block 87 cm wide x 45 cm deep with 2 flame gas cooker, sink, electric pump for tap, draining board and cover plate. 2) Cupboard unit with integrated freshwater tank. 3) Wardrobe and storage unit over the engine bay. 4) Roof locker below roof bed. 5) Cushion 120 cm wide over the engine bay. 6) 3/4 width rock n roll bed for 2 persons (bed is 188 cm x 120 cm when folded out) with bedding storage area under seat. 7) Rear table on swinging arm (80 cm x 40 cm) with light grey surface finish and dark grey edging trim. 8) Optional (at additional cost) front table on swinging arm (60 cm x 40 cm) with light grey surface finish and dark grey edging trim. 4) Volkswagen Westfalia California Upholstery Specification The interior upholstery material was a light grey velour material.
Curtains were grey with a darker grey/red stripe pattern.
5) Volkswagen Westfalia California Roof Specification VW Westfalia California Pop Top Roof Version: With aero dynamic wind deflector over the drivers cab. Inner lining of roof was a polyamid soft flock material. Canvas had a large opening aperture at the front with a zippable mosquito net. Fibreglass roof had an opening plastic window (29 cm x 39 cm) with mosquito net and black out curtain. Double bed in pop top roof 185 cm x 122 cm. Roof exterior was in vehicle colour. VW Westfalia California High Top Roof Version: Large plastic double glazed panorama window at the front. Insulated with 25 mm insulation. Two 40 cm x 40 cm lifting air vents with mosquito nets. Two x 12 volt reading lights inside roof. Storage Cupboard above drivers cabin. Double bed in hightop roof 194 cm x 116 cm. Roof exterior was in vehicle colour.
6) Westfalia California Flooring and Carpeting Specification The rear floor was a hard wearing grey lino type material and this was covered by a removable square grey carpet with a non slip rubber backing.
The front cab area was carpeted with grey carpet.
7) Volkswagen Westfalia California Door Trim Specification Door trims and interior panels were grey vinyl with a matching material padded insert. There was a storage pocket on the drivers side door panel.
8) Volkswagen Westfalia California Standard Model Specification Insulation Insulated on all inner bodywork in the living area with 25mm thick mineral fibre plates. The side walls and roof panels (only in Hightop) are made from lined wood panels. Windows and Curtains Green tinted heat absorbing glass on sides and front windscreen. Sliding windows in sliding door and opposite with fly nets. (because the Atlantic had plastic double glazing in the living area it did not have sliding windows although the one opposite the sliding door above the kitchen unit did open via hinges.)
Curtains all round. The curtain for the front windscreen was clipped on when required. Electrical 220 Volt external hook up with internal outlet socket and safety trip cut out. Three transistor lights 12 volts. (additionally there were two reading lights in roof bed on hightop models) Freshwater and Wastewater 55 Litre freshwater tank with electric pump and lockable cap. 20 Litre waste water tank under the vehicle. Gas Equipment External underbody 8kg LPG tank with Eis-ex (gas preheater for extreme cold temperature use) and 3 tap control. Kitchen Combination cupboard 87 cm wide x 45 cm deep on the left behind the drivers seat with sink, two flame cooker with splash plate. The splash plate folds down and can be used to drain dishes after washing. Also the unit has a cutlery draw, a large cupboard for tableware and the fridge.
Storage rail above the cooker. Diode control display system on the kitchen unit showing fresh water tank level, leisure battery charge level, indicator when fridge is running on gas and Eis-ex switch and LED indicator to show when Eis-ex is switched on (LPG preheater for use in extreme cold conditions).
Fridge 42 litre fridge working from 12v, 220v and gas.
Living Area All furniture is five sheet laminated and 15 mm thick plywood with a light grey PVC coating and dark grey PVC edging. The upholstery is grey velour material. Rock N Roll Seat Bed for 2 people in the rear with upholstered cushion over the engine bay.

Storage unit along the side with 3 stowage areas. Rotating table (80 cm x 40 cm) on metal arm for rear living area.
Holders for two headrests on rear seat. Seat belts for two people on rear seat. Sleeping Area Double bed when rock n roll seat folded down including cushion over engine bay (188 cm x 120 cm).
Logos California logos stripes on vehicle side. California logos front and rear. Additional Model Equipment. Front grill with double square headlights.
Plastic coated moulded front and rear bumpers with bumper strip. Front spoiler and short side planks on front doors (Atlantic had planking down entire side.)
Special upholstered dashboard. Velour seat upholstery. Driver and passenger swivelling captains seats with adjustable armrests. Power steering. Rev counter and a digital clock. Opening quarter light windows for driver and passenger. Forced ventilation via rear vents in side windows left and right. Heated Rear Window (there is a plastic double glazed rear window on Atlantic so it does not have this option.) Rear Window wiper (there is a plastic double glazed rear window on Atlantic so it does not have this option.) Extra warm air vent in living area supplied by engine temp (ie not night heater).
Intermittent wipers. 12 volt cigarette lighter and accessory socket. Make up mirror and light on passenger sun visor. Dual circuit and handbrake warning light. Lockable glove box lid. Storage pocket inside drivers door. Dipping rear view mirror. Carpet inside covering front wheel arches. Convex passenger outside mirror. Child lock on sliding door. 90 amp alternator for 70KW and 82KW Engines. Four silver wheel trims. Padded trim in the sliding door panel and right side next to rear seat made in matching material.
